This Level 3 Award in Small Animal Care and Welfare course is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and practical skills to maintain high standards of welfare for small animals.
This Ofqual regulated qualification teaches learners about animal first aid and their physical health. The course also explores the 5-core welfare needs including Environmental, dietary, behavioural, social and health-related requirements.
Small animals refer to domestic animals including dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, mice, hamsters, bearded dragons, reptiles, birds, and budgerigars.

Learners will gain an understanding of the different welfare organisations and how to identify and report poor animal welfare.
Learners will know how to assess the welfare needs of small animals, care for animals, monitor health needs of animals and deal with animal behaviour. They will also look deeper into the needs of various small animal species including dogs, cats, rodents, birds, reptiles and more.
To provide learners with basic knowledge and understanding of Animal First Aid, including when to call the vet and how to dress wounds.
