Yes you do. Just like if you managed a kennel, you do need an animal boarding licence which is issued by your local council.
There has recently been a significant change to the Animal Activity Licensing (AAL) Regulations 2018. This new legislation considers the varying types of businesses that have arisen in response to changes in pet owner attitudes and lifestyles and includes dog boarding and dog day care businesses. The new Regulations sit under the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and apply in England only.

This will depend on the size and layout of the premises, the type of dogs you will be taking care of and the qualifications and experience of the staff.
Generally, the ratio of staff to dogs in an established doggie daycare will be around 1:5.

For cats and dogs combined, the licensing cost will go higher in the region of £250 – £300.
